The shelves are done! The shelves are done!!! These shelves that have over taken our weekends and nights the past two months are finally done! Before I begin into the shelf story, I have to preface this with the fact that I absolutely love our shelves and am so excited about all our new storage space. And so the shelf story begins...
When Jared talked about doing some custom shelves in our wonderfully large hall way closet I was thrilled at the idea. Little did I know what we were getting into. I should have known. But I didn't. I had envisioned in my mind a quick weekend project, maybe two at the most. Don't I know my husband at all? When Jared does something, he does it right. He's a planner and he needs to know all the details before he starts something. After a couple weeks of planning (there went my quick weekend project. But in Jared's defense, we do have steel studs instead of wood which makes things trickier) we finally got the wood.
I have to admit that we did during this project become a little envious of anyone who has a garage. The wood needs to be cut somewhere and when there's no garage the front room because the wood shop. I've done a lot of dusting and vacuuming lately.
After another few weeks, thank you Jared's travel schedule, things were ready to be put on the walls.
This is my contribution to the project, besides encouraging words of course. Somehow I became the official glosser. I've spend many a morning and afternoon on the deck doing this. Just in case you were wondering, each board needs two coats of gloss and it takes at least six hours to dry when you do this in October and November. We had a lot of boards and yes, this took forever.
More progress. I like what I'm seeing. Can this really be done before baby girl bench gets here?
Jared did have a pretty great helper during the whole project.
Aren't they wonderful? I wish I would have taken a picture of what it was like before. Just imagine one sagging shelf with a clothes rod beneath it. Would you just look at all these shelves? The best part about them is they're completely adjustable. They may have taken forever to make (maybe I'm being a bit dramatic) but how can you not smile when you look at all those shelves? Job well done Jared.
